SMART failure on hdd, but unable to boot from another device

I have a SMART failure on a Toshiba hdd. I would really like to boot from another media to be able to analyze the drive more.
The message states that I can press "F1 to Continue", but it doesn't seem to work. Anything I can try? Is there a way to disable the message?
